Nguyen Quan is known for being the best Vietnamese art critic and one of the leading painters of the country simultaneously. His paintings reveals his inner soul, the complexity of his feelings and immediate desires and managing not to overshadow his critical skills. As an artist he has also successfully maintained the ability to incorporate spontaneity and carefreeness in his paintings.
